NAHMOD, VICTOR E., AND ALFREDO LANARI. AboZition of autoregulation of renal blood J-low by acetylcholine. Am. J. Physiol. 207(r): 123-127. 1964.~-In order to study the mechanism of autoregulation of renal blood flow, 36 mongrel dogs were connected in parabiosis according ,to the Brull method. The following determinations were made : a) flow/pressure curves in innervated and denervated kidneys and b) acetylcholine and arterenol infusion in innervated kidneys. The critical closing pressure and the ‘+un-off” index were also determined in all cases. The results of these experiments show the existence of renal blood flow autoregulation in innervated, denervated, and arterenol-infused kidneys, and the abolition of the autoregulatory mechanism in the acetylcholine-infused kidneys. The run-off index showed a better correlation with renal resistance than with critical closing pressure.

Connexin 40 mediates the tubuloglomerular feedback contribution to renal blood flow autoregulation.
Connexins are important in vascular development and function. Connexin 40 (Cx40), which plays a predominant role in the formation of gap junctions in the vasculature, participates in the autoregulation of renal blood flow (RBF), but the underlying mechanisms are unknown. Here, Cx40-deficient mice (Cx40-ko) had impaired steady-state autoregulation to a sudden step increase in renal perfusion pre...
متن کاملAutoregulation of Blood Flow: Vessel Diameter Changes in Response to Different Temperatures
Background: Autoregulation of blood flow is a marvelous phenomenon balanc- ing blood supply and tissue demand. Although many chemically-based explanations for this phenomenon have been proposed and some of them are commonly used today, biomechanical aspects of this phenomenon was neglected. The biomechanical aspect provides insights to us to model vessel diameter changes more precisely and comp...
متن کاملHistamine Hi Receptor Antagonists Inhibit Autoregulation of Renal Blood Flow in the Dog
Histamine Hi and H2 receptors are present in the canine renal circulation. We have examined the effects of H, and H2 receptor antagonists on autoregulation of renal blood flow in the dog. Renal arterial pressure was reduced in a step-wise fashion to 80 mm Hg by means of an adjustable aortic clamp positioned above the left renal artery. Infusion of H2 antagonists, cimetidine or ranitidine, into ...
متن کاملEffect of angiotensin II antagonist infusion on autoregulation of renal blood flow.
The role of the renin-angiotensin system in the autoregulation of renal blood flow was examined in the anesthetized dog. The angiotensin II antagonist, [1-sarcosine, 8-isoleucine]angiotensin II, was continuously infused into the renal artery at rates of 1 and 3 mug/min, and renin secretion rate and intrarenal distribution of blood flow as well as total renal blood flow were measured during acut...
متن کاملContribution of intrarenal generation of prostaglandin to autoregulation of renal blood flow in the dog.
The mechanism of autoregulation of renal blood flow was investigated in anesthetized dogs, using either constant-flow or constant-pressure perfusion of the kidney. Prostaglandinlike material in the renal venous blood was assayed hy the blood-bathed organ technique. Compensatory renal vasodilation, induced either by lowering the blood flow or the perfusion pressure, was accompanied by increased ...
